Yer Out!
Digital Manipulation/Deconstruction, 2004
It's well known the spectacle of sports dominant the entertainment industry in the United States. In fact, the history of the country prides itself on maintaining sports as a fundamental aspect of being American. "Like baseball and apple pie." The power of sports entertainment is insurmountable. More people will voluntarily attend a sports contest than enlist in the military or show up at the polls on voting day.
The most intriguing thing about sports entertainment is that the audience is approvingly accepted as interactive, public voyeurs cheering for their favorite players without inhibitions. But where would sports be without the players?
Yer Out! is an exploration of sports photography that looks beyond the individuals of the gaze and returns the spectacle back onto the audience.
